In this video I would like to talk about an emotion which most of us go through during the course of our life. It is an emotion which happens out of a wrong belief system, it happens right from a very young age and it stays with us till we are adults. It is the emotion of jealousy

Jealousy can arise between family, between friends, between work colleagues etc for various reasons. One kind of jealousy is, a simple kind of jealousy that ‘My friend looks better than me’ so he / she gets more attention from the public, from the opposite sex.

That is one type of jealousy where you envy your friend because he or she looks better than you. The quality of skin they have or the style they have of speaking is better than yours.

Another kind of jealousy will be based on material aspects. Our friends or colleagues have more money than us so they can shop for whatever they want, they can wear whatever brand they want, they can drive in the best car, dine at the best restaurants etc etc.

Jealousy can also crop up because of skill sets. Somebody is good at something and you are not, has a better job than you, can learn faster than you or whatever.

Now the reason behind the unhappiness that is created within us because of the emotion of jealousy is basically because of a wrong belief system. A belief system of ‘Looking good is the way to be happy’,’ you get a lot of attention when you look good’.

Yes you do get some amount of attention because you look good, but that is on a very temporary basis and that kind of happiness cannot be called a sustainable happiness.

The same with the material aspects of things. When you buy something new you may get some kind of happiness but is it sustainable or we need to keep buying stuff to derive happiness from buying things.

Even a skill set.. yes somebody can earn a lot of money with a particular skill set, maybe it is in demand in the market, there is a good job market for that skill. But if that friend knows himself only as that skill set is it really worth it.

Currently we will think yes, that is the way you make lot of money, that is the way you get into bigger companies, you get better jobs, thats the way you get happiness. Yes this is a believe system because we do not know any other dimension of living life other than what is just apparent, something that happens everyday in front of our eyes. It is just the normal way of thinking of how you are supposed get happiness.

But whatever your situation is right now, you get jealous about people. It troubles you and you want to get better in certain things, you want to look better. So in all these avenues where jealousy springs up you can just start a small little practice in your life of being self aware.

Self aware of your true self by feeling yourself in your body. A small little practice that you can incorporate into your daily living. This will help your mind to be self aware, and practicing finding yourself on a feeling level during the day.

And once you start practicing self awareness, you will see that your mind which is attached to so many wrong concepts, not because of your fault but because of the environment you are living in, the information that you are exposed to. The mind is working based on the information it is getting.

So whatever your parents told you, that you need to wear this color because that color doesn’t look good on you. So all these things play on our mind from a very young age. Other friends telling us that you do not look as good as so and so. So this starts to build our belief systems and this is the information our mind works with. Because it doesn’t have any other information.

And another important point is that our mind starts deriving our self worth, our sense of self from all this information. Information that you are not so well to do financially so your self worth depends on that. Because you mind only knows to derive your sense of self from this information.

But what if you can let everything be as it is and start to practice self awareness. Self awareness introduces your mind to a different dimension of living. Where you start being aware of your true self, which is the raw consciousness. Your mind starts to detach itself from all the wrong concepts from which it is deriving your sense of self from, which ultimately used to give you unhappiness.

But when you start getting in touch with your true self. When you practice self awareness in your daily living, while you are at home, when you are at work, when you are traveling, when you are shopping. If you start practicing self awareness which is not difficult to do, you do not need any degree or training. It is very simple because it is just reminding yourself of feeling yourself in the day.

Even though you may not do it all the time but you can start so that your mind is aware of your true self, and stops deriving your sense of self from the limited aspects of life.(from our job, from our wealth, from the way we look) these are very limited aspects of our life. We need to get in touch with the life force/source within us also called the perceiving presence. You can call it the presence within your body.

Once you get in touch with this presence, you start to live life from a different dimension, a life which is open, a life which is not monitored by these worldly materialistic wrong ways of deriving our sense of self.

It is the true or pure energy present within us that enables everything we can do. Enables the strength we have, enables our digestion, enables all our bodily tasks, enables our thinking. And awareness will keep you away from this illusion that you are anything less than anybody else.

And then yes in your career you can always build upon from where you are. But if you are constantly stuck in thought about how bad things are, how unlucky you are then it becomes very difficult for your mind to cope up. But once it is detached from all this nonsense and it knows that there is something special within, something that is life itself, it starts living life from a different perspective. Then your mind is a very good tool to design your life.

So practice self awareness to cope up with your jealous tendencies which is a false sense of self. And the lack that you feel which creates this jealousy in your life will minimize as your mind will start to be aware of who you truly are.
