In this video I would like to address our addiction of speed. We are under this false notion that the faster we do things the more we will accomplish. But the reality is the faster we do things the more we need to provide, or the need to do things faster only makes us provide more, as addiction is like a type of personality and that’s why many people get addictied to things like gambling or drugs, but the use of a rehab can help with this, which you can find in you learn the Priory Inpatient Prices here. You can also check into rehabilitation for alcoholism if you also suffer from being addicted to alcohol. Click here to learn more. You should also learn: Why seek help for cocaine addiction? Being a cocaine addict requires help and guidance from an expert in this line of work.
Lets take an example : Nowadays we have internet connections of different internet speeds. There are various packages which have different price ranges, and there are always these attractive offers for faster speeds where you have to pay a little more money.
Most of us are tempted to go for the faster speed internet connection. The one that is quicker, swifter. If we think about it the faster connection will only save you a minute or two. What can you get done in a minute or two. You have to be really organized if you are to take advantage of the minute or two that you save.
So is it the minute that we want to save? or is it an internal response to this addiction of speed. Everywhere you go you see, we have this tendency to get things done faster and faster on a daily basis.
There are new electronic devices like mobile phones coming out which have a higher processor, new computers & laptops that have a higher version of a processor which enhances speed. We are so tempted or obsessed to have these devices because we think if we have something that works faster we can achieve more.
But all we do is play games on such devices or are on social media chatting with our friends. The same could have been done on a slower device.
The reason we do not like to be slow or have a tendency to be fast is because we think we may get disconnected with life. People may think we are slow, we may become anxious that people do not like us or we are not with the trend.
Even in family when we ask a question we want a quick response, teachers want quick responses from students, everything needs to be done quickly. And then we also have this saying ‘haste is waste’. You see people speeding to work on the road, they could have started early but ‘no’ driving slowly is not the in thing. You need to be fast.
It is only when I am fast that I am fulfilling this addiction. Speed is an addiction, swiftness is an addiction that all of us are infected with or victims of. And the more we do things faster… the more we want this quickness in our life… the more we are moving away from stillness, the more we are moving away from quite and peacefulness, the more we are moving away from our true self our true nature.
People will meditate early in the morning to invite stillness in their life. But what are they doing for the rest on the day. They are rushing with things, they are continuously on the phone speed talking with people, they are speed texting people.
They are not implementing this.. slowness as you could call it or controlled action. Action that has some kind of beingness in it. They do not invite this into their life again and again on a repeated basis.
A simple example.. if you are at a supermarket at the cashier and you hand over your money.. you want the change immediately or quickly. You somehow just cannot stand there and wait for the change. There is something within you that is saying I need to move from here, I am not comfortable.
So we need to look at the way we are leading our life. are we continuously in a hurry, are we a victim of the addiction to speed, are we looking for the next fastest device because we think it will help us achieve more. Do we want the fastest internet connection. Are we eating are meals in haste.
Because if we are than we need to step back and invite this stillness, this peaceful beingness within us. We can do this by practicing self awareness which will invite this stillness in your life, which will get you in touch with your true nature, your true self which is calm and peacefulness. Please sign up for a free guide to practicing self awareness.
Start practicing self awareness and be conscious that you may be a victim to this addiction of speed.
I wish you the best with this practice of self awareness. Self awareness will get you in touch with your true self. It will help you to invite this stillness. It will help you to invite this awareness of your true self in your experience, in your activities.
Bring in this beingness in all that you do, do everything in a very controlled and stable manner. Don’t rush into things, don’t try to get things done fast thinking you will achieve more in your life.
Bring in this true self in whatever you do and you will see that your activities are not burning you out. You are still very active, you are very calm & peaceful at your work place… in the work that you are doing at your home when you bring in this beingness in whatever you do.
